HOBIE'S DESK

Hi Camas Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Camas Ridge! I am so excited to begin this journey together and to partner with you in supporting our students. Twice a month, this newsletter will share important updates, upcoming events, and celebrations from around our school. My goal is to keep you informed and connected as we work together to make this a wonderful year of learning and growth for every child.

At Camas Ridge, we focus on our values of being Welcoming and Safe. In these early weeks, students are practicing what this looks like—cooperating with others, using safe bodies, and following routines, Each day we model, remind, and celebrate their progress as they grow in confidence and care for one another.

Upcoming School Events

easyCBM Testing Window - Starts 9/10/2025- 9/25/2025
As many of you may know, elementary students in the Eugene 4J school district take the easyCBM Reading and Math benchmark assessments three times a year (fall, winter and spring). The assessments are designed to capture a “Snapshot” of each child’s reading and math levels at the time of the assessment, we look at the three data points to see progress over time for students.
We will begin testing students at different grade levels on Wednesday this week. It is important for families and students to know that these easyCBM tests are not high stakes, but simply a way to gauge their individual reading and math levels for a direction to go in a component of their learning here at Camas Ridge.
Results from the fall, winter and spring easy CBM tests are shared during Parent/Teacher conferences and in your child’s report cards. Feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Hobie if you have questions regarding easy CBM testing.

CURRICULUM NIGHT- Save the Date for Camas Curriculum Night
Thursday September 25th, 2025 from 5:00PM - 6:30PM

We will have pizza in the cafeteria starting at 5:00PM, so come in and enjoy a slice or two before we begin our night. We will also have information about our Camas Ridge Community Organization (our parent group) volunteer opportunities, SMART Readers and our School-wide Title 1 services for parents in the cafeteria. Please note our format is different from last year's.

We will need parents to sign our school-wide compact for Title Services in their homeroom classes as we are a Title School.

Teachers will provide homeroom, grade-level curriculum presentations in their classrooms at the below designated times and our specials teachers (gym, music, library) will do the same during their below level times.

Here is our Agenda:
09/25/2025 5:00PM - 6:30PM

5:00PM - 5:30PM (soft opening) in the cafeteria with CRCO/Volunteer sign up, SMART Readers and Title 1 School-wide information and pizza/salad for parents

5:30PM - 6:00PM K-2 curriculum in homerooms,

6:05PM - 6:35PM 3-5 curriculum in homerooms

5:30PM - 6:30PM Specials in their classrooms ( 2 - 30 minute sessions)

We will end the last session promptly at 6:35PM.

A quick reminder from the front office:

  • If your student will be absent, please call the attendance line at (541) 790-8825 before 8:30 a.m.
  • If you need to change how your child is being picked up, please leave a message on the attendance line before 12:00 p.m. so we have time to get messages out before the end of the day.

Thank you,
Principal Hobie

From the Library
Dear Camas Families,
I’d like to share the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, which outlines the core values that guide school and public libraries. This document affirms that all students and families should have equal access to information, that collections should represent diverse perspectives, and that libraries stand against censorship while protecting the privacy and confidentiality of every reader. These principles ensure that our library remains a welcoming, inclusive space where children can safely explore ideas, grow as readers, and develop critical thinking skills. I truly enjoy having your students in the library and look forward to a wonderful year of learning and discovery. You can read the full statement here: ALA Library Bill of Rights.

CAMAS RIDGE COMMUNITY NEWS

Classroom Liaisons & Contact Lists
This year the Camas Ridge Community Organization, in an effort to help build stronger classroom communities & support our incredible teachers, is creating grade level contact lists for our classroom liaisons. Classroom Liaisons are parent volunteers that work with classroom teachers and the CRCO to coordinate things like classroom snacks, volunteers, and more! We are hoping that by being able to communicate directly to our classroom communities we can help forge stronger friendships, better meet the needs of our staff, and make everyone feel more connected to Camas! If you are interested in being a classroom liaison, we would love to have you! Email us at camasridgepto@gmail.com to learn more!

Sign-up for your student’s contact list here:

Sign-up for the Kindergarten Contact List will be opened once students have been assigned their kindergarten classrooms!

As an added incentive, all folks who sign-up for their student’s contact list by September 19th will be entered into a free drawing to win one item of their choice from our Camas School Shirt Sale Fundraiser! If you signed up during the Meet & Greet, you are already entered to win!

Changes to Friday Folders this school year!
We are trying something new this school year! We will now be sending home Friday Folders ONCE A MONTH to families (some teachers may choose to send them home with student work weekly or more often). We are trying to be more intentional in how we communicate and are hopeful that this will be a step in the right direction. If you are interested in helping with Friday Folders we would love to have you! Volunteers are needed to help organize student work & stuff folders once a month, we work in the Community Room after drop-off (7:55am) on the dates below. Email us to get added to the crew!

Friday Folders will go home:
