What’s Happening 3/13/20 – Closures, Resources for Families

Good Afternoon Camas Families,
Here are a couple of things that you may find helpful going into this unexpected school closure.
Attached and at the link below are resources for families who may be experiencing food insecurity at this time. Please share this information with anyone who may find it helpful. Thank you to Jaime Hock, our counselor, for compiling these resources.
Also, while schools are closed  free meals for youth 18 years old and younger will be available for pick-up from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. at the following locations:
• Arts & Technology Academy, 1650 W. 22nd Ave.
• Awbrey Park Elementary School, 158 Spring Creek Dr.
• ECCO, 200 N. Monroe St.
• Holt Elementary School, 770 Calvin St.
• Howard Elementary School, 700 Howard Ave.
• South Eugene High School, 400 E. 19th Ave
• ECCO, 200 N. Monroe St.
I’ve also asked classroom teachers to reach out to families and let them know current topics and units of study in the classroom and make sure that families know how to access any digital tools used regularly at school. While these are no substitute for the work we do in the classroom, it will give you some resources to use if you choose . Thank you Camas teachers for taking time to do this.
Below are a couple of my favorites that I’ve used over the years.
https://www.readworks.org A terrific resource for high-interest, non-fiction reading and activities for learners from pre-k to grade 12.
https://xtramath.org/#/home/index Free math fact practice. Simple interface. Adaptive. Gives immediate feedback and charts progress.
https://hourofcode.com/us/learn – Free one hour tutorials in simple to intermediate coding.
https://scholasticnews.scholastic.com – Current events magazine for grades k-6. Interactive and high interest
Be well. Wash your hands. Continue to look out for one another.
