Camas Ridge Families,

As we begin planning for the next year I wanted to let you all know of some important changes to the Camas schedule. These changes will likely be welcome by many and may come as a bit of a surprise for some families as well.

Camas Ridge Community School is just that, a COMMUNITY, and we value and depend on the engagement of our community members when discussing the future of our school. We are hosting a meeting on Tuesday April 23rd, 2024 from 6-7:00pm at Camas Ridge in the Cafeteria to present information about the changes to Community Time and Projects that will take place in the fall and to open a dialogue for questions. I have already met with the Camas Ridge Site Council, Camas Ridge Community Organization (CRCO), and Camas Ridge Staff and look forward to gathering with our families and students to further the conversation.

In our school and across the district we have seen more and more of a need to provide enhanced social emotional learning. Fortunately, at Camas we have an amazing educational tool to enhance social emotional learning in our weekly Community Time classes.  Our Community Time classes met four days a week prior to the pandemic, but post-pandemic classes have only been able to meet once a week. Our staff have seen gaps in social emotional learning develop with the reduction in days of Community Time.  We have worked to look at ways of increasing our Community Time classes throughout the week and are excited to share with families what this means for Camas Ridge.

The other pillar of our Camas Ridge program is Project Based Learning. We have  been working with  Project Based Learning experts this year - giving support to our staff in raising the bar even higher in their Project Based Learning offerings to your students in this deeply important area of our school’s programming. We have learned quite a bit about the process of authenticity, how to challenge ourselves and students with projects, collaborative projects and most importantly how we truly embed projects in our learning. This will mean that project time will look different next year but this work has been exciting and invigorating for our educators and we can’t wait to share it with our students and you!

Next year will be a year filled with change and opportunity! We will be moving into a state of the art learning facility and we will be enhancing our foundational programs to Camas Ridge - Community Time and Project Based Learning. Please do come learn more about these changes and what they will mean for your student, their schedule and our school program.
