Eclipse Monday 4/8/2024

Posted Date: 4/07/24 (12:59 PM)

Hi Camas Ridge Families,

Tomorrow Monday April 8th, 2024 we get a rare opportunity to at times observe a solar eclipse (it’s actually a partial eclipse) during school hours on Monday, April 8, starting at 10:30, peaking at 11:20 or 11:30, and ending at 12:15. We do not know yet if it will even be visible with cloud coverage expected tomorrow. We are not having direct active viewing sessions of the eclipse as it is during the second recesses and lunches.

On an abundance of caution, the Kindergarten team and I have decided to keep our Kindergartners in during this time for recess and lunch (as we do not want them looking at the sun during this time). Please know that there is an opportunity to get retinal damage everyday outside, it’s just that the partial eclipse will be more of a phenomenon that kiddos would want to observe.

So please help us by providing your kiddos some forewarning about the eclipse and tell them “Don’t stare at the sun!” by reminding them of the dangers of staring at the sun. Thank you.

I will be out with my kids from 10-12:30pm as we have some cultural guidelines about eclipses that do not allow for our being outside, movement, eating/drinking, sleeping, during the time of the actual eclipse.

To summarize for Camas Ridge during the actual time of the eclipse we’ll have recess as normal and I’ll remind students on Monday's morning announcement. Teacher's will also be reinforcing this in their classrooms.

Thank you and enjoy your Sunday
