Volunteer

Volunteering is a great way to become familiar with your child’s school, get to know you child’s peers, and meet other families. To participate in volunteer opportunities at the school, all 4J volunteers are required to pass a criminal background check before they are work with students. Apply here: https://www.4j.lane.edu/volunteers/

Sign-in: All 4J volunteers are required to sign in at the start of a volunteer shift. This lets the office staff know you are in the building and where they can find you if they need you. This also makes sure you are covered by the district’s liability insurance in case of an accident. 4J also collects volunteer statistics and uses them in applying for grants that help schools. Upon signing in, volunteers pick up a district name tag to wear so staff and students will recognize you as a safe volunteer.

Volunteer Opportunities at Camas Ridge

Ongoing volunteer opportunities at Camas Ridge include:

Art Block Documenters: Twice a year, Camas Ridge students spend two to three weeks indulging in studying art of every format. As a tradition, there are volunteers who document students’ effort, joy, and struggles throughout their exploration of art. Training and equipment is provided.

Class Liaison: The class liaison helps coordinate volunteer needs for a core subject teacher and also keeps classroom parents informed of classroom needs, announcements and school events. The Classroom Liaison will also serve as liaison between the teachers and the PTO by bringing their needs to the attention of the Steering Committee and the PTO body.

Classroom: Classroom volunteers help teachers and students in the classroom.

Community Events: There are many community events planned during the school year. These events help us to build community, strengthening the bonds between students and their peers, teachers, and families. Events are posted to our calendar and our facebook page

eScrip Coordination: Help us get the Camas Ridge Community signed up and using eScrip correctly to bring in money for the school. We need parents willing to volunteer a few times a year at school events, as well as those willing to help educate other parents on eScrip.

Field Trip Helpers: Families help chaperone during class field trips. Contact the teacher you would like to volunteer with for details.

Friday Folder: Information from the Camas Ridge Community is sent home with each student at the end of the week in the Friday Folder. Families can expect to receive items like news from the teacher, school & community events, classroom work, permission slips, school picture information, discounted tickets, and lunch account balance notices. Information for the Friday folders is copied, sorted by class, and stuffed into Folders every Friday morning directly after school drop-off by volunteers. Most volunteers stuff folders for a single class only.

Fundraising Events: The money we raise helps us to stretch our resources to meet the needs of our kids. Most of the money is raised through events that include a fundraising component. Any contribution of time or funding is always appreciated. Events are posted to our calendar and our facebook page

Lunch and Recess Helper: Drop-in volunteers are always welcome to supplement staff supervision in the cafeteria and on the playground.

School Library: We do not have a school librarian, so volunteers are critical to the library experience for Camas Ridge students. Volunteers help with everything from check in and shelving to reading picture books to the lower grades.

School Garden: Camas Ridge families help with planting, weeding, watering, mulching and harvesting fruits and veggies or by helping teachers incorporate the life-cycle of plants into experiential learning activities. Weekend and evening opportunities available.
