Jog-a-Thon Envelopes Coming In!

Please keep them coming!

  • The Camas Ridge Jog-a-Thon is our largest fundraiser of the year.  This year our goal is $18,000.
  • We use the funds for activities and materials that enrich the school experiences of all students at Camas Ridge.   Examples include field trips, transportation, art supplies, classroom projects, technology, recess equipment, musical instruments, assemblies and outdoor school.  We do NOT use these funds to buy boring things like paperclips and copier paper.
  • We also make it a goal to not ask families to send in additional funds throughout the year for special activities.  We believe that if we all support this fundraise and other school-wide efforts, we will not need to do that.
  • We also have an online pledge portal operated through Eugene Education Fund to make it easy to ask friends and family from out of town to pledge your child.
  • What happens if we meet our goal?  I am glad you asked!  If we work together and meet our goal, I will camp out at school! Tent.  Campfire. Cooking.  Sleeping bag.  The whole thing!  Kids and families can come and visit me at Camp Camas that night and in the morning too!

 

 

Student Success Act – We Want to Hear From You

New funding is coming to Oregon schools, and we want to hear from you about how to best support student success.

This spring the Oregon Legislature and Governor approved the Student Success Act (HB 3427). This is a historic and much needed investment in K–12 schools. Eugene School District 4J is expected to receive about $12–13 million per year starting with the 2020–21 school year—about 5% of the district’s general fund budget—to increase academic achievement for all students, reduce disparities among student groups, and meet students’ behavioral and mental health needs.

Eugene School District 4J is seeking community input to inform the plan to invest these new funds. Student Success Act funds may be spent in four broad categories: increasing learning time, addressing student health and safety needs, reducing class size / increasing classroom staffing, and expanding well-rounded learning opportunities.

First, in September, the district is seeking input on what is working well and what improvements are needed in our schools. In a second phase, in November, the district will seek input on potential investments to support student success.

Please join us to talk about what student success looks like in our schools. What is going well in 4J schools? What are the challenges you’ve experienced? What areas, services and programs could we improve? Students, families, staff and community members are invited to take 10–15 minutes to complete the 4J Needs Assessment Survey, and/or take an hour to join a community conversation. Your voice matters!

At Camas Ridge and other schools, there are simply far more jobs and responsibilities than there are people to do them. By helping with special events and routine tasks, volunteers allow teachers and staff to focus more on helping children learn and grow. We can accomplish more, and offer children and families more services, with the help of volunteers.  Whether you want to help in the classroom, with special events or work behind the scenes helping teachers, in the garden or anywhere else, we would love to have you on our team.  Please see the links below to get started.
